Trick.ly helps you share privately.

casual privacy for the web

Click stats done right.

Trickly_stats

Marketers rejoice, click stats are now LIVE.

Here's the tweet and short of it:

  • You can see stats on links you create while logged in.
  • Stats are PRIVATE.  Your stats are yours.  No one else can see them.
  • You can now optionally login to your own Trick.ly account to use these features.
  • As of now, you can see total number of click per day
  • And underneath that you can see trends of password "attempts"

Quite possibly the most exciting feature in the recent update is the password attempt trending.  This allows you to see what people answered to any of your links.

The potential for marketers is that not only do you get buzz going from the exclusivity of a password protected link, but you get to see what people guessed is the answer.  Fun stuff.

New features coming tonight!

Tools

Tonight around 2am Pacific we'll be pushing out the new version of Trick.ly.  Features you will see (and love! :) are:

  • User accounts
  • Stats
  • A new "Riddle" option.  Very much like the "Password" but more clearly a riddle.
  • A new "question" option.  This is like a password with no right answer.  You'll get to see all the stats of peoples' answers in your account stats.
  • A couple other fun surprises!

Use case: NSFW

Nsfw_cartoon
The problem with NSFW (Not Safe For Work) warnings, is that PEOPLE DON'T READ them!

So as the designated office funny person, a great use for Trick.ly is to courtiously ask: "Are you someplace where music and your laughter won't disturb people?" ;)

Try it out here ;)

New feature: Accounts plus PRIVATE link stats

Coming later this week, user accounts!  And along with it, comes ... yup, you guessed it.  Click stats!

What a wonderful world for marketers and the obsessively curious :)

But don't worry, links stats will absolutely NOT be public to the world.  If you're into letting the whole world see your analytics, may we recommend bit.ly?

Use case: Strategic Information Leaks

Puzzle_piece
If you're an author, movie producer or musician, and you want to give your hard-core fans a sneak peek at some upcoming material while at the same time generating an avalanche of INTERACTION with your brand, put a riddle up on a Trick.ly link that leads to your private URL.

Some of the biggest hype generating marketing campaigns of the last decade have been riddle-based information leaks.  And the best part is, riddles will never go out of style.  We all love to solve and figure out stuff, it's at the heart of being human (apologies to any literate non-human beings -- we don't discriminate).

Use case: Trick.ly Job Recruiting

Googlebillboard

There are tons of clever ways to use Trick.ly. A great use for businesses is recruiting top talent.

Simply put your job application form behind a clever clue: http://trick.ly/2Qa

Years ago, Google did something similar with expensive billboards and domain names to find the "right people" for the job. Now you can do it much easier (and cheaper).

Use case: Twitter DM solution

Twitter_dm

A "direct message" (or DM) on Twitter is a private message between two people who follow each other.

But that's also a limitation: If you're trying to send something private on twitter to someone who doesn't follow you, you're out of luck.  You can ONLY send DMs to people who follow you.

Sooo.. here's an easy solution: just send them a link using Trick.ly!  You can include a password / clue that only they would know, plus you'll get some street cred for your social web prowess.

Twitter for iPhone is now available.

And it's a free upgrade!  Go ahead, update yours.  We'll wait.

Twitter_iphone

After recently acquiring atebits, Twitter has rebranded the Tweetie iPhone app as "Twitter for iPhone."

My favorite new feature is the low-profile re-tweets.  Very streamlined (just how we like things around here :)

The Trick.ly API will go live this weekend, and will make Trick.ly usable as a custom URL shortener within the new Twitter for iPhone.

Tweetie (er, Twitter for iPhone) support coming later this week.

Tweetie3_logo
Quick update: We're all set to roll-out our API (so you can use Trick.ly as the default URL shortener in Tweetie among other things) but in light of the imminent release of Tweetie's BIG update at the App Store, we will be waiting to push the update until later this week. Let them have their 15 minutes.. you know?
